Dark Intervals

"Touch is only possible at the edge of spaces. Light is only precious during Dark Intervals"

This smart and sharp liner note that I read on Keith Jarrett's minimalistic 1987 album recorded live in Tokyo set me thinking. I bought this album at Oxford Book Store yesterday as I was intrigued by the cover which seemed to capture with exacting detail the calm of the distant horizon. There was something mystical about this shot and after listening to the album, I cannot think of a more apt snapshot of this music. The mesmerizing cosmic flight of piano reflects the serene profundity of Keith Jarrett. The flaming passages of radiant intensity, the silent secret communiques of nocturnal visions and the fascinating improvisations left me more than impressed. If a piano, ten fingers and a master's genius can produce such a work of art, then Art is an expression of Minimalism. It is what you leave out that makes all the difference.

I start this blog as a tribute to that oft quoted pithy about minimalist philosophy- "Less is More".
